This is a brand new, OEM Mechanical Camshaft Adjuster Unit for the B6-B7 S4 or the C5 A6-allroad with the chain driven 4.2L 40 valve V8. There is one mechanical adjuster per head, so one motor will require two adjusters. 

We have seen these adjusters fail with as little as 70,000 miles on them. These adjusters are essentially made out of two pieces. One side of the adjuster has a pin sticking out of it that slides into a hole. This hole that the pin drops into eventually wallows out and doesn’t allow the adjusters to properly set the timing of the camshaft. As these units fail, you may experience both misfires and poor engine performance.

This part features the latest updated part number and comes directly from Audi. The OEM Part Number is 079109087N or 079 109 087 N.

NOTE: When replacing this part, you’ll also need to replace the Bolt that secures it to the camshaft along with the Electric Cam Actuator. These bolts are torque to yield and keep the motor in time by metal to metal contact and the amount of torque applied to the bolt. You can find this bolt in the same section as this adjuster or search for “mechanical adjuster bolt” in the search bar. Each adjuster requires 1 bolt, so one motor will need two.
